Mission: Licking our wounds
Location: Conference room
Timeline: current

Alexander stood watching out the window, the Iroquois was about finished being repaired. Six weeks, round the clock, all hands on deck for them. The war was not doing well for them. Thankfully the Tokyo, and the Myogi were still intact. But the last they heard, it did not bode well. It was time for a quick meeting and then departure, any more minor things could be handled en route. He had called for a briefing with all department heads. They were missing some key placements, the chief engineer being one of them. But something told him, it was nothing to worry about until they were sent to the front lines again.

"Lt what news do we have." He asked the computer.

Within a second. "Last we heard, the battle was still ongoing, distress call was still being sent out. Starbase 234 is presumed to be lost, however, there is no coonfirmation."

"Thank you Lt." He turned to the chair, and sat down. "Casualty report." He replied as he looked at the padd he held. "The list grew longer by the day. His list did not just include the federation, but the romulan, the klingon, the cardassian, and the Ferengi.

The doors opened as Lt. Commander Jones entered. Over the last couple of weeks, he had been working his department harder than he ever had before. There were scheduled and random drills. A few of those drills took place after hours during sleep hours. They definitely hated the Chief Security Officer right now. But if those drills helped to keep this crew alive, then Qual'tez could live with that. "Captain."

Savannah entered next and nodded her greeting at all the navy officers.

Next in the door was one of the newest faces on the Iroquois. Eager to prove herself, Mei had worked overtime, testing flight systems over and over again to make sure that the Iroquois and all of her auxiliary craft would handle correctly once the repairs were complete. In a life and death situation such as this, if even one of the Iroquois' shuttles was out of action, their entire evacuation plan would be compromised. As such, Mei had worked to ensure that even the workbee maintenance craft carried on board were in tip top shape.

With a nod to the other officers already present, Mei silently slid into the nearest vacant seat, going over data for potential optimization of the impulse engines on a PADD.

Sayori followed right behind Mei, nodding to everyone as she took her position.

Jade was next in, the last 6 weeks had flown by leaving her only a matter of 3-4 weeks at most before her son was due to be born. She smiled and nodded to those present as she took a seat.

"Since almost everyone that is needed here, is here, lets get down to business. Starbase 234 has been destroyed with it taking thousands of lives, both civilian and starfleet." Alexander replied as he brought up an image of the battle onscreen. The tokyo was seen damaged, smoking. "Our job now, is to make sure those people didn't die in vain. Our next assignment, we are heading out, testing our new upgrades, since the repairs. And to meet up with the second fleet. There is a rumour going around that talks have started with the Klingons, Cardassians, as well as a few from the Romulan empire. The Gorn and the Tholians, have also agreed to send a delegation, however more on an observational roll."

"What about the Myogi, sir?" Mei immediately asked. Having up until recently been part of Task Force Jomo, she was still naturally inclined to ask questions relating to ships of the Task Force. "Has anybody heard from Captain Takahashi?"

Qual'tez raised a curious eyebrow as he turned his attention to the Captain for an answer. The Iconians were making great strides into Federation space and Starfleet had mainly found themselves playing defense.

"The last i heard of the Myogi, she was dealing with the breen. Thats all I have been able to gather on that front, unfortunately, things have been going south for the task force. But shes still with us."

"Computer, stop all recordings that are about to be said in this room." Alexander ordered, and once the computer gave its obedient response, "Now, the talks I have talked about will be happening onboard the Iroquois, so we expecting klingons, cardassians, a tholian and a gorn to be onship, within the next three days for a period of a week. The second fleet will be escorting the ship as the talks will be done at high warp, on ship, not on a starbase which is customary. considering what has just happened. The first sign of iconians attacking, we are to head into slipstream, and not look back."

Savannah whistled softly. That was certainly unexpected. "Do you need my marines to help with security?" She asked.

"Given our current hostilities with both the Tholians and the Gorn, its best to arrange several teams to protect them. We may have to... tend to their needs a little more than the others."

Jade was understandably concerned at hearing that they’d be hosting the talks onboard ship. “That’s going to be quite some gathering, isn’t that going to put us in the position of, more or less, having a bullseye painted on our hull?”

"Thats why we are going to be travelling at high warp, with a fleet escort. We won't be sticking in one spot." Alexander replied, "These meetings is high priority which is why the first moment that we detect anything related to the Iconians, we hit the slipstream and don't look back. Even if it means abandoning the fleet."

Slipstream? Mei hadn't been informed that the Iroquois was equipped with a slipstream drive. This was bound to be a shakeup.

"That's why we're going to need a multi-vector escape plan." Mei responded to Jade's question. "If going to slipstream is an option, I'm going to have to take a crash course of the drive's capabilities. Learn how she handles going faster than warp travel."

"You will be able to once we leave here, the meet up is in three days, that gives us time to sort out all of our stuff including getting you acquainted with the slipstream." Alexander brought up a screen showing their route they would be taking. It wouldn't be direct, they would warp to the variton sector where they would conduct tests, before entering into slipstream. Six hours heading towards the delta quadrant, and then swing around and head to the Brenoli sector to meet up with the fleet."

"So, we're being brought back into service for diplomatic purposes which would require running away if necessary," Jones mentioned with a sigh. "With all due respect, Captain. The Iroquois is one of the most advanced ships that Starfleet has to offer. Our talents would serve better on the frontlines."

"I agree, but we can't do this alone, we need friends to join the fight. They requested a ship that can put up a fight should the talks be interrupted."

Sighing a bit in frustration, Qual'tez opted not to push the issue. "I'll put together a list of my best people to place on a detail of the delegates. All those people in one place are a tempting target."

"Which is exactly why its not being done on a starbase, or a regular ship. We are one of the fastest with the slipsream drive, and we are being escorted by a fleet." He looked at the time. "Everyone has their orders, any questions can come to my office when the meeting is done."
