New Crew, New Mission

Savannah did change into uniform before going to meet the captain. These meets always made her a little nervous, not all captains liked having marines on board their ship and were weary of a marine commander, with her latest advance in rank it meant she was just one rank below a navy captain now and it was at the captain's discretion to involve her in the running of a ship or not. So she took a deep breath as she hit the chime to his door.
Alexander looked up, not really knowing who to expect at this hour, he had been late getting home to Jade, and was finally coming down to the end of this pad. "Enter." He replied as he walked over to the replicator.
She walked in and then came to attention. "Colonel Sorrel reporting for duty, sir."
"Welcome aboard Colonel." Alexander replied as he walked over. "Please... no attention... I don't care for the whole stiff as a rock deal around me."
"I am glad to hear it." She stood down and relaxed a little. "I am of like mind." After meeting the first officer she was beginning to fear this tour was not going to be pleasant.
"Let me guess, you have met with our first officer." He replied noticing her on edge.
"Yeah and I can't say it was a very pleasant experience, sir." She said honestly. "He was extremely rude to me."
"Hey, at least you don't need to get him a psyche evaluation... and be expected to run this ship with an iron fist." He paused. "Its admirable that he takes protocol seriously, after almost 20 years of command, I may be lacking in the proper protocol department. We will find a common ground... hopefully."
Savannah was surprised that the captain talked about his first officer with her so openly and not in a good way. She had not expected that. "I hope this will not affect how we work together. It is always much better if marines are welcome on a ship."
"In the past 17 years of command, I have always welcomed the inclusion of the marine corps. Not everyones cup of tea I know. But we all gotta stick together."
"I am very glad to hear that. I have a great deal of respect for the navy." Savannah said. "Seeing that my da is a fleet officer."
"Thats good. Do you have any questions before we break."
"Just one, sir. What do you expect of me? Do you want to integrate me fully in your command crew? I am certified to do bridge duty. Some captains want to keep the marines as seperate as possible. I would like to know where we stand."
"Until we have a full senior staff, I'm going to place you on third rotation, bridge duty. Being In charge of the marines, you will need to be updated with everything we encounter on the other side. I will also set up a station for you on the bridge for when you are needed." Alexander replied as he handed her a pad. "Your shift starts in fifteen minutes. Don't be late."
It took her by surprise to be on the roster that soon but Sav recovered quickly. "Yes sir, no problem." She saluted and left the captain to get ready for her first shift on the bridge.
