Perhaps a book out of the Commanders book is in order

Posted on Sun Jan 26th, 2025 @ 3:14pm by Captain Alexander Johnson & Lieutenant Colonel Savannah Sorrel

765 words; about a 4 minute read

Mission: New Crew, New Mission
Location: Marine Decks

Alexander got the Colonels message, was he bothered by it. Of course, the marines were supposed to be hardlined officers, looked upon for disciplined. What was relayed to him, was anything but. So he made his way down to the marine decks in search of the Colonel herself. Perhaps one on one would do good, then they could approach the guilty party. Together.

"You call yourself marines." Savannah bellowed while she held a chrono. "This by god is the worst time yet. Another lap around the gym and I want to see a better time or you will be doing this all day." She turned around as she saw the captain and her face slightly reddened. She hoped he had not seen too much of this sorry show. "Sir, how can I help you."

"I got your note... your office please." Xavier replied, as he turned towards the office. "I understand that these... marines are subpar."

"I am working on it, sir." Savannah said. "It takes time to make a unit and these youngsters have not had the benefit of discipline for a while. But I will get them there." She said while working. Sav was glad that her office now at least resembled an office. "Have a seat please, sir."

"The problem with not having a war in the past 25 years. People lose skills." Alexander replied.

"I know. They have gotten soft. But not to worry sir, I have a very good track record with whipping troops into shape." She gave him a wolfish grin.

"Not worried, but I still can't have them running over you." Alex replied. "I can understand how Commander zuir can be the one needed in certain situations like this."

"Excuse me?" Sav could not believe her ears. "Who says they are running over me? I did not get to lt colonel by letting marines run over me. And that man will not get anywhere near my marines."

"Not saying they are... not mentioning bringing him in, was just suggesting that maybe, in certain aspects, perhaps we can take a page out of his rule book. Marines are rowdy... they are gung ho... give them something to do that will relieve that energy."

"You think I don't know all of this... sir. This is my job, I am in the process of whipping them into shape. I haven't been on board 48 hours and you are already telling me you have no confidence in my leadership? I find that offensive... sir." By now Sav was cooking inside.

"Never said no such thing... it seems the entire ship has been complaining about the Commanders way of doing things, in this instance it is needed. Never said anything about your capabilities."

"No it is not needed." Sav said. "I will not have that pervert near my marines. I will train them, but I will do it in a humane way. That does not mean they will not wish the most horrible things upon me. But I do not believe in the way that man works. And I think you could better use your time doing something about him instead of telling me how to do my job."

"Glad to see you have a fire inside you Col." Alexander replied calmly. "Just making sure you can hold your own. Give the Commander time... he will warm up to people."

"I am very happy if he stays out of my way." Sav said. "I am out of patience with the man." Secretly she had hoped the captain would take some action, and she felt dissapointed. Without showing any of that of course.

"We are all new to each other... don't make any hasty judgements until we figure shit out about one another. We owe everyone that much."

"It's navy officers sticking up for each other." Sav was still pretty mad. "Well if you are ok with a pervert walking around naked on your part of the ship, fine. As long as he doesn't do it in marine country."

"That is not acceptable at all. We will have to discuss that with the individuals... put a stop to that. You know what I mean, there are obvious lines thats not to be crossed, which is common sense, walking around naked being one of them. Other things, thats not as severe, not crossing the line... if you understand what I mean."

She almost sighed with relief. "Thank you, sir. That is very good to know. ... Yes I will try to work with you as much as possible, but don't expect miracles out of me."

"Not yet anyway..."
